I haven’t written any product reviews as such and I wasn’t sure if they would be part of my blog. However, in the last couple of months I’ve had the pleasure of discovering some amazing local brands that are making these great and really high-quality products that I felt I need to share them with you.
One of these brands is the wonderful Gift Angel, who does indeed have real angelic qualities. The company started by the wonderful and sweet Jana Blažević, popped up on my Instagram feed a couple of times … but really caught my eye when I saw this carefully arranged gift that cupofteamama (take a look, she’s one of my inspirations) chose for her friend.
I decided to take a look at this IG profile that promises to deliver smiles and I can honestly say that I completely fell in love with the whole concept. Carefully assembled gift packages, filled with various artisanal products. From drinks, natural cosmetics, spices to handmade delicacies … whatever you think of, you can find it here!
I immediately knew I wanted to order a gift and I had a great excuse as my husbands 25th birthday was coming up. I sent a message and we started bouncing ideas right away through a lovely and laid-back conversation that just made me even more excited. I briefly described my husband, what he likes and his personality, while Jana thought of what products to mix and match to create the perfect gift.
Even though Petar broke his leg and had to have surgery on his actual birthday … he got his present the second they wheeled him back into his hospital room. What I can truly say about Gift Angel is that their promise of #wedeliversmiles holds true. I felt so happy and emotional while I watched how elated Petar was while exploring every product and excitedly telling me when and how he’s going to try out each one.
So here’s what we chose for his gift and what he (and I he-he) thought of each product:
Sapunoteka body lotion:
I recently discovered Sapunoteka and for now I’ve tried four of their products. I’m happy to say I’ve loved all of them (I will write a more detailed review on them in another post)!
This body lotion consists of cold pressed natural oils, spring water and natural essential oils. The main ingredients are olive oil, macadamia and lavender and what I can say is that the smell is absolutely divine (I might be a bit biased because I’m obsessed with lavender). The lotion is very nourishing, absorbs quickly and the amount you get is huge. Petar really liked it, especially the natural aroma and he doesn’t get mad when I steal a bit sometimes so win-win.
Handmade, natural soy candle (which I find really important since I’m doing my best to avoid low quality candles ever since I’ve read about how harmful they can be). The smell is sandalwood, which is one of Petar’s favorites (you know how it is with these bearded men, give them sandalwood, pine, cedar, musk … or something equally manly). We still haven’t lit the candle as we’re waiting for Petar’s leg to heal so we can make a romantic bubble bath and add the candle for some ambience.
San Servolo beer:
One lager, one dark lager … both delicious. As beer lovers I knew we had to incorporate a beer or two in the package and this turned out to be a great option. He waited a couple of days to drink them (until he was back home and we celebrated his bday, because apparently it’s not OK to have a beer after anesthesia pffft), and I’m sure you can see how the San Servolo was an awesome addition to the whole gift.
Harrisa spice store nut mix:
We love Harissa, so it’s safe to say this was a great add on to the whole gift. The original plan was to nibble on the mix while enjoying the San Servolo beers, but we forgot about that. So we decided to cut up some fancy cheeses, played a good movie and opened this pack of macadamia nuts, pecans, coconut cubes and dried cranberries (so a trail mix … if your trail happens to be the one to the Buckingham palace). All in all, a great combo … especially with the fancy cheeses.
Bolero handmade chocolates:
Cause who doesn’t like chocolate? (if you don’t like chocolate don’t feel the need to let me know, you will just needlessly shock me).
Bolero is a Croatian company that makes handmade chocolates from quality ingredients, using traditional recipes … and honestly the difference is very noticeable. Petar loved the milk chocolate with almond, while I was blown away by the dark chocolate bar!
The white chocolate was a bit too sweet for my taste, but I’ve never really been a fan of white chocolate (it’s a chocolate imposter!)
GoRetro.hr leather wallet:
Croatian handmade designer fashion accessories for the modern gentleman … that’s the description of the GoRetro company so it’s logical that something of theirs is to be found in a gift for Petar.
A small, black, leather wallet and pin with an engraved mustache, monocle and top hat … gentlemanly, hipster … perfect for him and sure to be used well.
Boolab products for men:
For those of you who didn’t know, Boolab is an awesome natural cosmetics company, and soon enough I will try some of their products for women (I couldn’t resist), and I left this part of the review for the end since they were Petar’s absolute favorites (naturally, since it’s all about the beard) so I’ll just give you his feedback:
1. Handmade beard oil: “It absorbs amazingly, feels good on the skin and leaves the beard really soft. I really like the smell, even though some might find it a tad too sweet”
2. Beard shampoo: “A beard shampoo bar, smells great, cleans out the beard really well, doesn’t dry it out and lasts really long”
3. Beard pomade: “The winner of the whole package, great for the beard, so easy to brush through, is excellent for shaping, has an old-school manly smell. My definite favorite and one of the best pomades I’ve tried”
Personally I can say I love how the products smell, and seeing how much he enjoys the products I can’t wait to receive my Boolab order.
The gift also included a wooden decorative plaque that will go into the little tykes nursery (our sons, not Petar’s) since it fits in perfectly with our vintage decor ideas, a succulent plant in a golden jar (Petar loves plants and has an amazing green thumb, I don’t know how, but I’m not complaining since our apartment is a wonderful jungle) and a simple greeting card in which I wrote a heartfelt letter because 1. He broke his leg on his birthday, 2. I’m pregnant so I have the right to be emotional and I can always use hormones as an excuse.
So there it is … I wanted to share how this idea of personalised gift packages absolutely blew me away and if you ever decide on getting someone a present with meaning and care, I truly recommend Gift Angel.
P.S. the wooden box the gifts came in is so pretty we use it as a decor piece in our bedroom, as well a place to store important tidbits, so again … win-win.
